Alberto Navarra

Navarra solo2

Alberto Navarra is rapidly emerging as one of the most accomplished and versatile flutists of his generation, praised for his exceptional artistry, technical mastery, and engaging stage presence. Recognized as one of Classic FM’s Rising Stars 2024, he has performed extensively across Europe, establishing himself as a leading voice in today’s classical scene.
A defining moment in his career came in 2022, when he won First Prize at the Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition in Odense, Denmark, an achievement that consolidated his international profile. This success followed earlier distinctions at the Severino Gazzelloni International Flute Competition (2021) and the Dorel Baicu International Competition (2020).
In the same year, Alberto joined the prestigious Karajan-Akademie of the Berliner Philharmoniker, performing alongside Emmanuel Pahud and other distinguished members of the orchestra at leading festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, Lucerne Festival, BBC Proms, and Baden-Baden Festspiele, under conductors including Kirill Petrenko, Iván Fischer, and Christian Thielemann.
Alberto’s orchestral career has since flourished. From 2024 to 2025, he served as Co-Principal Flute with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, and he is currently Principal Flute of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also appeared as guest principal with ensembles such as the
Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, La Filarmonica di Milano, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona, Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Luzerner Simphonieorchester.
Alongside his orchestral and solo work, Alberto is an active chamber musician, appearing at renowned festivals including Davos and Aix-en-Provence, and was appointed Classeek Ambassador by Emmanuel Pahud, leading to a series of solo and chamber recitals in Switzerland.
Deeply committed to teaching and mentorship, Alberto regularly gives masterclasses across Europe, focusing on combining technical refinement with artistic individuality to inspire the next generation of flutists.
Born in Mondovì, Italy, Alberto studied at the Conservatorio di Musica “G.F. Ghedini” in Cuneo; he later pursued advanced studies with Andrea Oliva at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and with Jacques Zoon at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid.
Following his Nielsen victory, he recorded his debut solo album with the Odense Symfoniorkester for Orchid Classics (2023).
“Alberto is a leading talent of his generation… he has since distinguished himself by winning 1st Prize at the Nielsen International Competition 2022 and winning the Audition for the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philarmonic. Both processes started with a video selection of roughly 200 candidates. Most important, it is then on stage and with live acoustics that Alberto made a tremendous difference, by his tone projection, his stage presence, his musical ideas.”
