Romano Faralli

Claudio Romano began his musical studies at the “Alfredo Casella” Conservatory in L’Aquila, under the guidance of Prof. Antonio Striano, graduating at a very young age with top honors. In 1978, he won the international competition as Principal Timpanist at the Rome Symphony Orchestra of Rai. Since 1994, he has held the same position at the National Symphony Orchestra of Rai, based in Turin. He has played under the direction of the world’s greatest conductors. He conducts advanced courses and masterclasses in Italy and abroad. Recently, he received an international lifetime achievement award.

Jonathan Faralli
He completed his musical studies in percussion and composition at the State Conservatory of Music “L. Cherubini” in Florence, graduating with top honors. He graduated in Sociology of Education from the University of Florence. He earned a diploma in Music Education from the Conservatory of Fermo. He furthered his studies at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam and in Strasbourg. Since its foundation in 1981, he has continuously collaborated as a timpanist and percussionist with the “Orchestra della Toscana.” He has been part of and is still called upon to collaborate with the most famous Italian orchestras, performing in the most prestigious auditoriums and theaters worldwide under the guidance of the greatest conductors (including Giuseppe Sinopoli, Zubin Mehta, Yuri Temirkanov, Georges Prêtre, Carlo Maria Giulini, Daniele Gatti, and Claudio Abbado). He engages in solo and chamber music activities, holding masterclasses and concerts on all continents. He has collaborated with the most famous composers, including Luciano Berio, Salvatore Sciarrino, Franco Donatoni, and John Cage. Many composers have dedicated their works to him, including Daniele Lombardi, Salvatore Sciarrino, Pier Alberto Cattaneo, Ideiko Inoara, Davide Zannoni, Stephen Dembski, Stefano Giannotti, and Roberto Becheri. He performs in a duo with flutist Roberto Fabbriciani. He was part of the group “Les Percussions des Strasbourg” from 1993 to 1996, performing in major European cities. He collaborates with numerous ensembles, including “Contempo ensemble,” “European Music Project,” “Modern Times Duo,” “Richard Gagliano,” and “I Virtuosi di Mosca.” He collaborates with the music research institute “Tempo Reale” (informatics and computer music) founded by Luciano Berio. He has an extensive discography with orchestras, chamber groups, and as a soloist, with leading record labels. Noteworthy is a solo CD by ARTS titled Percussions XX secolo, containing the most interesting solo percussion pieces of the past century, a CD by Stradivarius titled Studi per l’intonazione del mare with music by Salvatore Sciarrino, and a CD by Agorà titled Hyxos together with Roberto Fabbriciani and Massimiliano Damerini. He currently teaches at the State Conservatory of Music “P. Mascagni” in Livorno, where he is a professor of the percussion instruments class and collaborates with the School of Music of Fiesole, where he tutors the percussion section of the Italian Youth Orchestra.

PREPARATION AND SIMULATION OF AUDITION FOR TIMPANI AND PERCUSSION IN ORCHESTRA WITH CLAUDIO ROMANO E JONATHAN FARALLI

PERCUSSION

The course is aimed at all percussionists, both graduated and non-graduated, who want to deepen their study of percussion and timpani through technical exercises and orchestral excerpts in preparation for auditions and competitions.

The 4-day course will focus on:
• Technical-interpretative analysis of the primary orchestral excerpts for timpani and percussion from the symphonic repertoire;
• Simulation of an audition, in which it is possible to achieve a positive and automatic response, considering the development of psycho-emotional self-control.

Type of lessons: group lessons.
Minimum number of registrations to activate the course: 8 students.
There is no provision for auditors.


The organization reserves the right to make some scholarships available to the most deserving students, to be assigned at the end of the course and at the discretion of the teachers.
