Hans van der Zanden while still a student at the conservatories of Maastricht and Tilburg (NL) Mr. van der Zanden received his first invitation from Maestro Jac van Steen to play as principal horn in the Neues Berliner Kammerorchester. Soon after he was appointed principal horn in The North Netherlands Orchestra in Groningen, NL.
Currently, Mr. van der Zanden is principal horn of Brussels Philharmonic, Belgium.

As an invited guest with some of the world’s top orchestra’s & ensembles, like Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Essener Philharmoniker, Orchestre Philharmonique Liège, Bochumer Symphoniker, Metalakan Brass Toulouse a.o. Mr. van der Zanden has travelled extensively throughout his career, not only within Europe, but also Asia, Russia and both North & South America.

Mr. van der Zanden works with a variety of chamber music ensembles both at home and abroad as well as being a member and co-founder of the highly appraised Goldberg Ensemble.

Mr. van der Zanden can be heard on a multitude of television and film soundtracks. His extensive catalogue includes films scored by Alan Silvestri, Elliot Goldenthal, Laurence Rosenthal and the Oscar winning film, “The Artist” by Ludovic Bource.

Mr. van der Zanden gives yearly Masterclasses in Chiaramonte Gulfi (Sicily) and Horn Festival Fagagna (It).

Since September 2018, Mr. van der Zanden is professor of horn at Fontys Academy of Arts, Tilburg (NL).
As of September 2025, Mr. van der Zanden will start a new professorship at LUCA School of Arts, Louvain, Belgium.

FRENCH HORN MASTERCLASS WITH HANS VAN DER ZANDEN

FRENCH HORN

– Main focus on audition;
– Preparing audition excerpts;
– Stage Behavior;
– Mozart, Strauss, Neuling with piano accompaniment;
– 1 concert with full horn class, both individual and ensemble playing;
– A horn player will be selected for the performance of the Trio op.40 for violin, horn, and piano by Johannes Brahms in a public concert of the 15th edition of the Livorno Music Festival;
– Audition for jury (winner(s) get the opportunity to win at least 1 week work with – Brussels Philharmonic).

All audition material will be listed and send to you after the application closing date.

The course provides a piano accompanist (only on request at the time of registration).

The organization reserves the right to make some scholarships available to the most deserving students, to be assigned at the end of the course and at the discretion of the teachers.
