ARRANGEMENT AND ORCHESTRATION MASTERCLASS WITH ROBERTO MOLINELLI
16 – 18 August (19-31/08 Online)
Recipients: all musicians – singers, instrumentalists and composers – professionals and amateurs, of any musical genres, interested in analyzing and deepening of arranging and orchestration practices with the widest interaction between the various types of instruments (acoustic and electric / electronic), from small groups to the big classical and modern symphony orchestras.
Required minimum skills: basic musical knowledge, no specific skill is required.
DEVELOPMENT OF THE MASTERCLASS
Students can choose their participation, according to one of the following methods:
- IN PRESENCE in Livorno, from 16th to 18th August 2025, with individual lessons and extensive insights and collective and interactive multimedia examples;
- ONLINE through one of the available platforms (Skype, Zoom, Google Meet, or others), with 5 individual lessons of one hour each, to be scheduled with the teacher within the period 19th August to 31rst August 2025;
- Both of the previous options, in person and online, with the characteristics described above, with the 20% discount on the attendance fee of the course online.

2- ARRANGEMENT AND ORCHESTRATION
Creating an arrangement in different styles:
- melodic, harmonic and structural variations
- basic principles of arranging a musical piece
- choice of musical style
- choice of instruments: acoustic, electric, electronic
- where to start from (melody, bass, harmony, etc.)
- general structure of the piece (intro, theme, coda)
- how to harmonize the melody, writing a countermelody or a second voice
- writing the intro and the coda
- step-by-step making of a piece, in different musical styles.
Adaptation and Orchestration of a piece for different instruments from originals
- how to set up the work analysis of the piece, peculiarities to be kept and enhanced
- use of the available ensemble: acoustic, electric, electronic instruments
- identification of the essential parts (melody, harmony, bass, etc.)
- choice of sections to omit or add choice of the best key (with adaptations from the original key)
- simplifications (instrumental, harmonic, rhythmic)
- step-by-step making of the adaptation and orchestration of a complete piece.
The timetable and the operation of the course will be defined by the professor according to the composition of the class.
The organization reserves the right to make some scholarships available to the most deserving students, to be assigned at the end of the course and at the discretion of the teachers.
